Welcome to the family! If you’ve recently decided to follow Jesus or are looking for a new believers church in Boise, we are so glad you’re here. At 1Love Christian Church, we believe that the journey of faith isn't just about what happens on Sunday mornings; it’s about the quiet, personal moments you spend with God every single day.
For many people starting their walk with Christ, prayer can feel a little bit like learning a new language. You might wonder, "Am I doing it right?" or "Does God really want to hear about my day?" The answer is a resounding yes. Prayer is simply a conversation with a Father who loves you deeply. One of the most life-changing habits you can build is an evening prayer routine. It’s a way to decompress, offload the stresses of the day, and find a level of peace that sleep alone can’t provide.
In this guide, we’ll walk through five simple steps to help you start an evening prayer practice that brings real peace to your heart and mind.
Step 1: Find Your Sacred Space
You don’t need a stained-glass window or a cathedral to talk to God. In fact, some of the most profound prayers happen in the most ordinary places. For a new believer, the key is consistency over complexity. Find a spot in your home where you can be still for five or ten minutes. It could be your favorite armchair, a spot on the porch overlooking the Boise foothills, or even just sitting on the edge of your bed before you lie down.
Creating a "sacred space" is less about the décor and more about the intention. When you enter that space, you’re telling your brain and your soul, "This is my time with God." Turn off your phone, dim the lights, and just breathe. In our busy Boise lives, we are constantly bombarded with notifications and noise. Giving yourself permission to be silent is the first step toward hearing the "still, small voice" of God.
Step 2: Open with Gratitude
It is hard to be anxious and grateful at the same time. That’s why we always recommend starting your prayer by looking for the "God moments" in your day. Think back over the last twelve hours. Where did you see a glimmer of kindness? Maybe it was a productive meeting at work, a beautiful sunset, or a laugh shared with a friend.
At 1Love Christian Church, we often talk about how our Sunday worship services are a celebration of God’s goodness. Your evening prayer is like a mini-worship service in your own home. By starting with "Thank you, Lord, for…" you shift your focus from your problems to His provision. This practice is a core part of Christian discipleship in Boise, helping us recognize that God is active in our lives even when we don't realize it.

Step 3: The Daily Review (Examen)
There’s an ancient Christian practice called the "Examen," which is basically a spiritual "debrief" of your day. As a new believer, this is a powerful tool for growth. Walk through your day chronologically and be honest with God about how it went.
- Where did you feel close to God today?
- Where did you pull away?
- Did you lose your temper? Did you let worry take the wheel?
This isn't about guilt; it’s about grace. If you messed up, confess it right there. God isn't looking for a perfect performance; He’s looking for a sincere heart. When you acknowledge your mistakes and receive His forgiveness, you prevent those burdens from weighing you down through the night. This is where real Christian discipleship in Boise happens: in the honest reflection of our daily walk.
Step 4: Pray for Your Community
We weren't meant to walk this path alone. Part of finding peace is realizing that we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Take a few minutes to pray for the people in your life. Pray for your family, your neighbors, and your church family here at 1Love Christian Church.
If you’ve been coming to our Friday Fellowship Dinners, think of the faces you saw there. Pray for the men in our Man Up Men’s Ministry as they strive to lead their families with integrity. Pray for those preparing for baptism in Boise, taking that beautiful public step of faith. Interceding for others takes the pressure off your own life and connects you to the heart of God, who is constantly looking out for all His children.

Step 5: Surrender Your Worries and Rest
The final step is the most important for finding peace: surrender. Write down: or mentally hand over: the things you are worried about for tomorrow. The bills, the health concerns, the difficult conversations: tell God, "I can’t handle this tonight, but I know You can."
The Bible tells us that God never sleeps or slumbers. While you rest, He is still working. End your prayer by asking for the "peace that passes all understanding" to guard your heart and mind. You might find it helpful to repeat a simple verse, like Psalm 4:8: "In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety."
