Here is a simple, five-step guide to help you build a morning Bible study habit that actually sticks.
1. Pick Your "War Room" (Time and Place)
Consistency is the secret sauce to spiritual growth. If you wait until you "feel like it" or until you "have a free minute," it likely won't happen. Our lives are designed to fill up every available second. To truly grow, you have to carve out a specific time and a specific place.
Think of it as an appointment with the Creator of the universe. If you had a meeting with a mentor or a close friend at a coffee shop in downtown Boise, you’d show up on time and sit in a spot where you could actually hear them. Your morning Bible study deserves the same respect.
- The Time: It doesn't have to be 5:00 AM. If you’re a night owl, maybe "morning" means 8:30 AM after the house settles down. The goal is to give God your first fruits, not your leftovers. Even 15 minutes can change the trajectory of your entire day.

- What does this say? (Observation): What are the facts? Who is speaking? What is happening in the story? Don't look for deep meaning yet: just look at the plain text.
- What does this mean? (Interpretation): Why did the author write this? What does it tell us about God’s character or His promises?
- What do I do? (Application): This is the most important part. How does this truth change how I treat my spouse, how I handle my finances, or how I view my neighbors here in the Treasure Valley?
If you find a verse that really hits home, write it down. Put it on a sticky note and stick it to your dashboard or your computer monitor. Let that truth simmer in your mind all day.
