Walking into a new church for the first time can feel a lot like being the new kid at school. You might be wondering where to sit, if you’re dressed right, or if anyone will actually talk to you. At 1Love Church, we want to take that weight off your shoulders right away. We aren’t a place of polished perfection; we’re a local Christian church in Boise where real people come to find real hope.
Community isn’t just a buzzword here: it’s the heartbeat of what we do. Whether you are looking for spiritual support or just a place where people know your name, building authentic friendships is the best way to make a big church feel like home. If you’re ready to move from the "new person" to a "regular," here is a beginner’s guide to finding your tribe at 1Love Church.
1. Show Up with a "Just Willing" Attitude
One of our favorite phrases around here is "Not perfect, just willing." You don’t need to have your life all figured out to belong here. In fact, most of us don’t! The first step to building community is simply showing up with an open heart.
Our Sunday services run from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, and they are designed to be a casual, welcoming space. If you want to start building friendships, try arriving about ten or fifteen minutes early. This is when the "lobby life" happens: coffee is brewing, people are catching up, and it’s the easiest time to strike up a quick conversation.
A great practical tip is to find a spot you like and sit there consistently. Humans are creatures of habit. When you sit in the same general area each week, you’ll start recognizing the faces around you. A simple "Good morning" or "I think I sat near you last week" is often the spark that starts a lifelong friendship.
2. Midweek Momentum: The Wednesday Night ReCharge

While Sunday mornings are great for worship and teaching, the real "glue" of community often happens in smaller settings. This is where our Wednesday Night ReCharge comes in.
Starting at 6:30 PM, the ReCharge is a midweek boost designed for both teens and adults. It’s a bit more informal than Sunday morning, which makes it the perfect environment for asking questions and sharing a laugh. When you’re in a smaller circle, it’s much easier to share your story and hear someone else's.
We believe that community grows best when we are learning together. Whether we are diving into a specific book of the Bible or talking about practical faith for real life, these midweek gatherings allow for the kind of back-and-forth conversation that you just can't get in a large worship service. If Sundays feel like the front porch of the church, Wednesday nights are the living room.
3. Find Your Specific Circle
We know that "one size fits all" doesn’t always work when it comes to friendship. Sometimes you need to be around people who are walking the same path you are. That’s why we host specialized ministry programs throughout the month.
For the men in our community, our "Man Up" events on Saturday mornings (8:30 AM – 10:00 AM) are a fantastic way to connect. There’s something about a Saturday morning meeting that takes the pressure off. It’s just guys being real, talking about faith, and supporting one another in the challenges of life.
By joining a group that fits your specific season of life, you automatically have common ground with the people in the room. You aren’t just "some person from church": you’re a brother or sister in Christ walking through the same joys and struggles. You can find more information about these specific gatherings on our website.
4. Serving Together: The Fastest Way to Belong

Ask anyone who has been at 1Love Church for a long time how they made their best friends, and nine times out of ten, they’ll tell you: "We served together."
There is something special that happens when you roll up your sleeves and work toward a common goal. Whether it’s helping with the tech team, greeting people at the door, or working with our community ministry programs, serving takes the focus off yourself and puts it on others.
When you serve, you aren't just a spectator; you're part of the team. You get to see the behind-the-scenes heart of the church, and you spend time with people who share your values. If you're feeling a bit shy about "mingling," signing up to help with a task is a great way to have a role while you get comfortable with the people around you. It gives you a reason to be there and a natural topic of conversation.
5. Keep the Connection Going Digitally
We know life in Boise is busy, and you can’t always be at the building. But community doesn’t have to stop when the lights go out on Sunday.
A great way to stay "in the loop" is to join Pastor Daro for our Monday Night Facebook Live sessions from 8:30 PM to 9:00 PM. It’s a short, encouraging way to start your week, and the comments section is always full of familiar names. It’s a digital "touchpoint" that keeps us connected between Sundays.
By engaging with our social media and online content, you start to learn the names and faces of the leadership and other members. When you see them again in person, you’ll already feel like you’ve been part of the conversation.
6. Embracing "Grace Over Perfection"

One thing we want you to know as you look for friends here is that we value Grace Over Perfection. Sometimes, people hesitate to build church friendships because they’re afraid they’ll be judged if they admit they’re struggling.
At 1Love Church, we strive to create an atmosphere where it’s okay to not be okay. Real community requires vulnerability. When you’re ready, try sharing a little bit of your real life with someone you’ve met: a prayer request, a challenge at work, or even just a win you’ve had during the week.
Authentic friendship grows in the soil of honesty. When we stop trying to impress each other and start being real with each other, that’s when the "church family" becomes a reality. We are all just people looking for a way to follow Jesus more closely, and we’re much better at it when we do it together.
Taking the Next Step

Building community takes time, but it is one of the most rewarding investments you can make for your spiritual and emotional health. You weren't meant to do life alone, and you certainly weren't meant to walk your faith journey in isolation.
If you’re new and you’re feeling a little nervous about taking that first step, we’d love to help. You can reach out to us through our contact page or just come find one of us after the service this Sunday. We’d love to grab a coffee, hear your story, and help you find the right small group or ministry where you can thrive.
Remember, the doors at 1Love Church are open to everyone. Whether you've been in church your whole life or this is your very first time stepping inside a sanctuary, there is a place for you here. We can't wait to meet you!
