Spiritual Growth 101: A Simple Guide to Daily Scripture for New Believers

Hey there! If you’ve recently decided to follow Jesus, first off, welcome to the family! There is nothing more exciting than starting a fresh journey with God. But we also know that once the initial excitement settles in, you might be wondering, "Okay, now what?"

At 1Love Christian Church, we hear that question a lot. Most people think spiritual growth involves climbing a mountain or learning ancient languages, but it’s actually much simpler than that. It’s about building a relationship. Just like you can’t get to know a new friend without talking to them, you can’t get to know God without spending time in His Word.

If you are looking for a Bible teaching church in Boise that keeps things simple and real, you’re in the right place. We want to help you navigate these early days of faith with a straightforward plan to get you into the scriptures daily.

Why Daily Scripture Matters

Imagine trying to run a marathon without ever eating. You wouldn’t get very far, right? Your soul needs "food" just as much as your body does. In the Treasure Valley Christian worship community, we often talk about the Bible being our daily bread. It’s the primary way God speaks to us, guides us, and reminds us of who we are in Him.

You don't need to be a scholar to understand the Bible. You just need to be willing to listen. Whether you’re listening to Boise sermons on your commute or sitting quietly with a physical Bible at home, the goal is consistency over intensity.

Sunday Service - Grace Over Perfection

How to Use This 14-Day Guide

Before we dive into the readings, let’s set up a simple rhythm. You don’t need an hour; just 10 to 15 minutes will do.

  1. Pray simply: Start by saying, “Lord, please speak to me today. Help me understand what I’m reading.”
  2. Read slowly: Don’t rush to finish. Read the passage once or twice.
  3. Notice one thing: Is there a specific word or sentence that jumps out at you?
  4. Respond: Tell God what you think about that verse or how it applies to your life.

If you miss a day, don’t sweat it! We’re about grace here, not perfection. Just pick up where you left off.

Week 1: Getting Rooted in Christ

This first week is all about your new identity. Everything changes when you realize how much God loves you and what He’s done for you.

Day 1: New Life

Read: 2 Corinthians 5:17 and John 3:3–8
The big takeaway here is that you aren’t just a "better" version of your old self; you are a brand-new creation. The old stuff is gone. God has given you a fresh start. Take a second today to thank Him for that clean slate.

Day 2: Forgiven and Clean

Read: 1 John 1:8–9 and Romans 8:1
A lot of new believers struggle with guilt from the past. But God’s Word says that if we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us. There is no condemnation for you anymore. You are safe in His grace.

Day 3: Staying Connected

Read: John 15:1–8
Jesus uses the image of a vine and a branch. A branch can’t grow fruit if it’s snapped off the vine. Our job isn’t to "try harder" to be good; our job is to stay connected to Jesus. When we stay close to Him, the growth happens naturally.

Day 4: Craving the Truth

Read: 1 Peter 2:1–3 and Psalm 119:9–11
Think of the Bible like milk for a newborn baby. It’s what helps you grow strong. Try to pick a consistent time today, maybe right after you wake up or during your lunch break, to make space for God’s Word.

Day 5: Talking with Your Father

Read: Matthew 6:5–13
Prayer is just a conversation. In this passage, Jesus gives us a "pattern" for prayer (The Lord’s Prayer). It’s not a magic formula, just a guide to help you praise God, ask for what you need, and ask for help staying on the right path.

Day 6: You Belong to Him

Read: 1 John 5:11–13 and Romans 10:9–10
God wants you to have "assurance." That means He wants you to know that you have eternal life. It’s not based on how you feel today; it’s based on the promise of His Word.

Day 7: Better Together

Read: Hebrews 10:24–25 and Acts 2:42–47
Christianity was never meant to be a solo sport. We need each other! This is why being part of a local church family is so important. If you haven't checked us out yet, come visit us at 1Love Christian Church. We’d love to meet you.

Week 2: Walking Daily with God

Now that you’ve got the basics down, week two is about how we live out this faith in the middle of our normal, messy lives in the Treasure Valley.

Day 8: Keep Walking

Read: Colossians 2:6–7
You started this journey by faith, and you continue it the same way. Ask God today: "Jesus, what is one area where I need to trust You more today?"

Day 9: Saying "No" to the Old Ways

Read: Romans 6:1–4, 11–13
We all have old habits that try to pull us back. But because of Jesus, those habits don't own us anymore. You have the power to say "no" to the old life and "yes" to the new one.

Day 10: The Helper Within

Read: Romans 8:9–16 and Galatians 5:16–18
You aren’t doing this alone. God put His Holy Spirit inside you to be your counselor and your strength. When you feel overwhelmed, just whisper, "Holy Spirit, help me."

Day 11: Growing Like a Tree

Read: Psalm 1:1–3
A tree planted by a river doesn’t wither when the heat comes because its roots go deep. When you spend time in the Bible, you’re sinking your roots deep into God’s strength so you can handle whatever life throws at you.

Day 12: The Fruit of the Spirit

Read: Galatians 5:22–25
How do you know if you’re actually growing? Look for "fruit." Are you becoming more loving? More patient? More peaceful? This is God’s work in you!

Day 13: Obedience Because of Love

Read: John 14:15, 21
We don't obey God to make Him love us (He already does!). We obey Him because we love Him back. It’s our way of saying "Thank you" for everything He’s done.

Day 14: Living on Mission

Read: Matthew 5:13–16 and 28:18–20
You have a purpose! God wants to use your life to show His love to your neighbors, co-workers, and family. You are a light in the world.
