Hey there! If you’ve recently decided to follow Jesus, first of all, welcome to the family! We are so glad you’re here. Transitioning into a walk with God is the most exciting journey you’ll ever take, but we also know it comes with its own set of questions and challenges. One of those challenges often hits when the sun goes down.
For many of us in the Boise area, life is fast-paced. Whether you’re working a 9-to-5, raising a family, or navigating school, the evenings are usually the first time the world gets quiet. And for a new believer, that silence can sometimes feel a little loud. You might find yourself lying in bed with your mind racing, thinking about the past, worrying about the future, or wondering if you’re "doing this whole Christian thing" right.
At 1Love Christian Church, we want you to know that God’s desire for you isn't a heart full of anxiety, it’s a soul at rest. Jesus famously said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” That’s a promise specifically for you.
Here is a simple, casual guide to help you find that evening rest and connect with God before you close your eyes.
Remember Who You Are Before You Sleep
Before you start tallying up everything you did wrong today or everything you need to do tomorrow, take a second to remember your identity. As a new believer, your identity isn't based on your performance; it’s based on God’s love for you.
When you look at our Statement of Beliefs, you’ll see that we emphasize the incredible grace of God. You are His child. Before you drift off, try saying these simple truths out loud:
- “Father, thank You that I am Your child.”
- “Jesus, thank You that You love me exactly as I am.”
- “Holy Spirit, thank You for being with me tonight.”
It sounds simple, but reminding yourself that you belong to Him changes the atmosphere of your room. You aren't alone in the dark; you are in the hands of a Father who never sleeps.
Review Your Day with Grace, Not Guilt
It’s natural to look back on your day and think about the moments where you lost your temper, said something you shouldn't have, or just felt distant from God. As a new believers church Boise residents can count on for support, we always encourage people to talk to God about their day, but do it with grace.
Try asking yourself these three questions:
- Where did I see God today? Maybe it was a beautiful sunset over the Boise River or a kind word from a coworker.
- Where did I struggle? Be honest. Tell God where you messed up.
- Where do I need help tomorrow? Ask Him for the strength to handle tomorrow’s stresses.
When you confess things to God, don't beat yourself up. 1 John 1:9 tells us that if we confess, He is faithful to forgive us. You can drop those burdens at the foot of the cross and leave them there. You don't have to carry today's mistakes into tomorrow's dreams.

Laying Down Your Burdens Intentionally
Sometimes we pray, but we still feel heavy. It’s like we told God about our problems, but we kept holding onto the bag. Tonight, try to physically "hand them over."
You might even want to write down the things stressing you out, money, health, family, or your spiritual growth, and then pray over that list. Tell the Lord, “I can’t fix this, but You can. I’m giving this to You so I can sleep.”
Knowing that God is in control allows you to relax. If you’re feeling especially overwhelmed, our Prayer and Care Ministry is always here to stand with you. You don't have to carry the weight of the world on your own shoulders.
Let Scripture Quiet Your Mind
The world gives us a lot of noise, but God’s Word gives us peace. You don't have to read three chapters of the Bible to find rest. Even one or two verses can be enough to settle your heart.
Some great "rest" verses include:
- Psalm 4:8: “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
- Psalm 23: A classic reminder that the Lord is your Shepherd and He leads you beside still waters.
- Philippians 4:6-7: A reminder to trade your anxiety for prayer and receive a peace that passes understanding.
Reading these slowly before bed helps shift your focus from your problems to God’s power.

Create a Simple Evening Rhythm
Consistency is key when you’re building a new life with Jesus. You don’t need a two-hour prayer vigil. Just 10 or 15 minutes of intentional time can change everything.
Try this:
- Phone Away: Turn off the screens about 20 minutes before bed. The news and social media usually don't help with peace.
- Breathe: Take a few deep breaths and acknowledge God is in the room.
- Read: Open a Bible app or a physical Bible to a Psalm.
- Pray: Talk to Him like you’re talking to a friend.
- Rest: Close your eyes knowing you are safe.
If you find yourself awake in the middle of the night, don't reach for your phone. Instead, try talking to Pastor Daro during his Monday Night Live sessions or just use that time to pray for someone else. Sometimes, shifting our focus off ourselves is the quickest way to find peace.

Rest in Community at 1Love Christian Church
One of the best ways to find rest throughout the week is to stay connected with your church family. When you know you have people backing you up, the nights don't feel so lonely.
At 1Love Christian Church, we have a place for everyone to grow and find support:
- Sundays: Join us for 9:30 AM Bible Study, followed by 10:30 AM Worship, and our main 11:00 AM Sermon. It’s the perfect way to start your week centered on Christ.
- Man Up Men’s Ministry: For the guys looking to lead their families and find strength in brotherhood, our Man Up Ministry is a game-changer.
- Bible Study & Discipleship: If you want to dive deeper into these truths, check out our Bible Study groups.
Being part of a community helps you realize that everyone struggles, and we are all leaning on Jesus together. If you are looking for baptism in Boise, we would love to talk to you about taking that public step of faith! It’s a beautiful way to mark the beginning of your new life and find a deeper sense of peace in your commitment to Him.

Caring for Your Body as Worship
Finally, remember that God made you with a body and a soul. Sometimes, finding spiritual rest is easier when we take care of our physical selves. Try to get enough sleep, drink water, and move your body during the day.
When you treat your body with respect, you are honoring the "temple" God gave you. It’s much easier to feel the peace of the Holy Spirit when you aren't running on caffeine and three hours of sleep!
For the men in our community, the Man Up Men’s Ministry often talks about this balance: being physically, mentally, and spiritually strong so we can serve those around us.

You’re Not Alone
The journey of a new believer is a marathon, not a sprint. Some nights will be easier than others, and that’s okay. God isn't looking for perfection; He’s looking for your heart.
If you’re struggling to find peace tonight, just remember that the same God who created the stars is the same God who knows your name and loves you more than you can imagine.
We invite you to visit us this Sunday and experience the community we’ve built here in Boise. Whether you’re coming for the 9:30 AM Bible Study or the 11:00 AM Sermon, there’s a seat saved for you.
Rest well tonight, knowing that you are loved, forgiven, and never alone.
