Your Quick-Start Guide to Daily Spiritual Growth: Do This First

Starting a new habit can feel like trying to start a lawnmower that’s been sitting in the shed all winter, it takes a few good pulls before things really start humming. But when it comes to your relationship with God, the effort is always worth the reward. We all want to feel closer to Him, to understand the Bible better, and to live out our faith with more confidence. The question is usually: where do I actually start?

At 1Love Christian Church, we believe that spiritual growth isn't about being perfect or following a rigid set of rules. It’s about relationship. Whether you’ve been walking with Jesus for decades or you’re just starting to explore what faith looks like, having a simple daily rhythm can change everything. If you’re looking for a Bible teaching church in Boise that values authentic connection, you’re in the right place.

In this guide, we’re going to break down a "Quick-Start" routine that you can start tomorrow morning. No fancy equipment required, just you, a Bible, and a willing heart.

Why the Morning Matters

There’s something special about the first few minutes of the day. Before the emails start flooding in, before the kids need breakfast, and before the noise of the world takes over, there is a window of quiet.

When we give God our "first fruits", not just our money, but our time and attention, it sets the tone for everything else. It’s like calibrating a compass. If you start your day pointed toward Christ, you’re much more likely to stay on track when the storms of life hit. We see this all the time in our Treasure Valley Christian worship gatherings; people who prioritize that daily connection often find they have more peace and patience throughout the week.

Step 1: Pick Your Spot and Your Time

Consistency is the secret sauce of spiritual growth. If you wait until you "feel like it," you might find yourself waiting a long time.

  • The Time: Decide on a time. For some, that’s 6:00 AM before the house wakes up. For others, it’s during a lunch break or right after school drop-off. The "when" matters less than the "will."
  • The Spot: Find a place where you can be yourself. Maybe it’s a favorite chair, your kitchen table, or even a quiet bench in one of our beautiful Boise parks. Having a dedicated spot tells your brain, "Okay, it's time to focus."

Step 2: Open the Word (Don't Just Read It)

The Bible can be intimidating. If you just flip it open to a random page, you might end up in the middle of a list of ancient genealogies or a complex prophecy that leaves you scratching your head.

Instead, have a plan. At 1Love Christian Church, we always encourage people to dive into the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) or the Psalms. If you want to dive deeper into how we teach the Word, you can always catch up on our recent Boise sermons to get a feel for how we break down Scripture.

Try this simple method:

  1. Read: Read a small section (maybe 10-15 verses).
  2. Observe: What is actually happening here? What does this say about God?
  3. Apply: How does this change how I treat my coworker, my spouse, or myself today?

If you find yourself struggling to understand a passage, don't worry! That’s what community is for. Our Bible Study & Discipleship groups are perfect for asking those "tough" questions in a safe, casual environment.

Step 3: Talk to God (Prayer)

Prayer doesn't have to be poetic. It doesn't have to be long. It just has to be honest. Think of it as a conversation with a friend who loves you more than anyone else ever could.

A great way to structure your prayer time is using the ACTS acronym:

  • Adoration: Tell God how great He is.
  • Confession: Admit where you messed up and ask for help to do better.
  • Thanksgiving: List a few things you’re grateful for today.
  • Supplication: Ask for what you (and others) need.

Step 4: Write it Down

There is power in the pen. When you write down what you’re learning or what you’re praying for, you create a record of God’s faithfulness. It helps clear the "mental fog" and keeps you focused.

You don’t need an expensive leather journal. A simple spiral notebook works just fine. Just jot down one verse that stood out to you and one thing you want to work on today. This simple act of reflection is a cornerstone of our Faith & Practice here at 1Love Christian Church.

Finding Community in the Treasure Valley

Growth happens best in circles, not just rows. While your private morning time is essential, we were never meant to walk this path alone. 1Love Christian Church is a small, tight-knit family of about 50-70 people who are all trying to figure this out together.

If you’re a man looking for a bit more "iron sharpening iron," you’ve got to check out our Man Up Men’s Ministry. It’s a great way to connect with other guys in Boise who are committed to growing spiritually and leading their families well.

And of course, we’d love to see you on a Sunday morning! There’s nothing quite like gathering with the local church to worship and learn together.

Our Sunday Schedule:

  • 9:30 AM: Bible Study (A great place to ask questions and dive deep)
  • 10:30 AM: Worship (Heartfelt, authentic Treasure Valley Christian worship)
  • 11:00 AM: Sermon (Practical, Bible-based teaching)

Do This First

If you do nothing else tomorrow, do this: Spend five minutes in quiet. No phone, no music, just quiet. Ask God to meet you there.

Spiritual growth is a marathon, not a sprint. Some days will feel like you’re flying, and other days it might feel like you’re trudging through mud. That’s okay. The goal is to keep showing up. 1Love Christian Church is here to support you every step of the way. We aren't just a building; we're a family committed to showing the love of Jesus to everyone in Boise and beyond.
